Description

A spicy and tangy sauce that perfectly complements Tibetan and Nepali dumplings, known as Momos.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large tomatoes, diced
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 fresh red chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a hot pan, add oil and sauté the garlic, ginger, and fresh chilies until fragrant.
  2. Stir in the chili powder and cumin, cooking for another minute to allow the flavors to bloom.
  3. Add diced tomatoes and cook until they break down and form a sauce, about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce, vinegar, and salt to taste. Allow the sauce to simmer until thickened.
  5. For a smoother sauce, you can blend the mixture (optional).

Notes

Momo sauce can also be used as a dip for snacks or as a sauce for noodles and stir-fries.
