Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup strawberry puree
  • 1/2 cup melted dark chocolate
  • Chocolate chunks and strawberry slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans. Line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat sugar, eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ones, mixing until combined.
  5. Divide batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Allow cakes to cool completely.
  6. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Fold in strawberry puree.
  7. Cut each cooled cake layer in half for four thinner layers. Spread strawberry cream filling between each layer.
  8. Frost the top and sides with remaining whipped cream. Drizzle melted dark chocolate and garnish with strawberry slices and chocolate chunks.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to enhance flavors.

Notes

For extra moisture, wrap the cooled cakes in plastic wrap and let them sit overnight before assembling. Use fresh strawberries for the best flavor.
