A rich and moist Double Chocolate Banana Layer Cake that combines chocolate and banana flavors, perfect for any celebration.


Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, combine the mashed bananas, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.
  3. In another large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Gradually add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder to the wet mixture, alternating with the banana mixture.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best flavor, use very ripe bananas. Be careful not to overmix the batter.
