- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, combine the mashed bananas, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.
- In another large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder to the wet mixture, alternating with the banana mixture.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best flavor, use very ripe bananas. Be careful not to overmix the batter.
