Authentic Mexican Horchata

Description

A traditional Mexican drink made from rice, cinnamon, sugar, and milk, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups water (for soaking)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Dump the rice and broken cinnamon stick into a big bowl and add the water. Let it soak overnight or at least six hours.
  2. After soaking, blend the rice and cinnamon stick mixture until it’s as smooth as possible.
  3. Strain the mixture into a pitcher using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
  4. Add sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to the strained liquid and stir to combine.
  5. Pour the horchata over ice and serve.

Notes

Store in the coldest part of your fridge. Shake or stir before serving to mix any settled solids. Best consumed within 3 days.
